Airtec Series NXDA pneumatic cylinders are compact double-acting actuators with a non-rotating piston rod, designed for machinery where attached tooling must maintain its angular position throughout the stroke.

Why Choose NXDA Instead of a Standard Compact Pneumatic Cylinder?

A normal piston rod can rotate around its own axis unless the machine provides separate external guidance. That may be irrelevant for a simple pushing movement, but it becomes a problem when the piston rod carries tooling that must stay square to the workpiece.

The strongest reason to specify NXDA is repeatable tooling orientation. A shaped pusher, locating finger or clamp attached directly to a normal piston rod can rotate unless something else on the machine controls that movement.

My existing piston rod has flats or an anti-rotation profile. Should I replace it with standard NXD?

Not if the machine relies on that feature to maintain tooling orientation. Standard NXD does not provide the same anti-rotation function as NXDA.

Does NXDA need a separate external guide?

Not purely to prevent piston-rod rotation, but the pneumatic cylinder still has load limits. Heavy side loading or large bending moments may require additional guidance or a dedicated guided actuator.
