Camozzi QCTF & QCBF Double-Flange Guided Pneumatic Cylinders

Camozzi QCTF and QCBF guided pneumatic cylinders combine pneumatic movement with twin guide columns and front-and-rear flange support in one compact actuator. They are designed for machinery where space is limited but the moving load still needs controlled guidance, alignment and resistance to external forces.

The two ranges use different bearing systems. QCTF uses double sintered-bronze bushes for applications where higher side loading is expected, while QCBF uses double linear ball bearings for faster cycling and greater movement precision. Three different end-cushioning arrangements allow the actuator to be matched more closely to the energy and motion requirements of the machine.

QCTF or QCBF: Which Guide System Does the Load Need?

This is a fundamental purchasing decision rather than a minor option. Two guided pneumatic cylinders can have the same bore and stroke while behaving differently because the bearing system controls how the external load is supported.

Double Flanges for Better Mechanical Support

The F designation identifies the double-flange construction. Instead of supporting tooling from only one end of the guide assembly, the guide columns are supported by flanges at both ends.

This gives QCTF and QCBF a distinct mechanical arrangement from the standard QC guided pneumatic cylinders and makes the range useful where increased rigidity and controlled alignment are required within a compact machine envelope.

Three Ways to Control End-of-Stroke Energy

This gives machine builders considerably more control over how the moving load is stopped. A light, slow-moving assembly may only require the standard mechanical cushioning, while a faster or heavier tool may benefit from dedicated shock absorbers.

Shock Absorbers Are Part of the Cylinder Selection

On Type B QCTF/QCBF pneumatic cylinders, two shock absorbers are positioned on the body so both directions of movement receive hydraulic impact control. Type C uses a single centrally positioned shock absorber on the rear flange for one end of the movement.

The shock-absorber specification changes with pneumatic cylinder size, so it should be treated as part of the original Camozzi configuration rather than added as an arbitrary accessory after selection.

Designed for Restricted Machine Space

Camozzi developed the QCTF/QCBF guided pneumatic cylinder range specifically for installations where available space is limited. Movement and external guidance are combined in one compact assembly rather than requiring a separate pneumatic cylinder, bearing block and guide mechanism.

This can simplify machine design in compact handling, positioning, transfer and tooling applications while also keeping the mechanical relationship between the pneumatic actuator and the guided load closely controlled.

Magnetic Sensors on Either Side

Compatible magnetic proximity sensors can be installed on either side of QCTF and QCBF pneumatic cylinders. This gives installers freedom to place the sensing and wiring away from guards, tooling or other components surrounding the actuator.

The integrated magnetic piston enables extension and retraction position feedback without physical contact with the moving assembly.

Intermediate Strokes Are Available

Camozzi publishes a broad matrix of standard QCTF/QCBF strokes up to 200 mm depending on bore and cushioning configuration. Intermediate non-standard strokes in 5 mm increments can also be supplied on request.

This can be valuable where a machine requires a very specific travel and changing the surrounding mechanism to suit the nearest catalogue stroke would be undesirable.

Choosing QCTF / QCBF for a Real Machine

My tool pushes sideways as well as forwards. Which version should I investigate first?

QCTF is the logical starting point because Camozzi specifically recommends its bronze-bush guidance where greater side loads act on the slide unit. The actual permissible load and moment must still be checked for the selected size and stroke.

I'm building a fast pick-and-place movement. Would QCBF normally be the better option?

Potentially. Camozzi positions the QCBF linear-ball-bearing version for faster cycles and higher precision where side loads are lower. The operating speed, load position and required accuracy should all be assessed together.

When should I order shock absorbers instead of standard mechanical cushioning?

Where the moving mass or cycle speed creates too much end-of-stroke energy for simple mechanical cushioning, the B or C configurations provide dedicated shock-absorber control. The correct arrangement depends on whether impact control is required at both ends or only one end of travel.

What's the main reason to use QCTF/QCBF instead of standard Series QC?

The double-flange and double-bearing construction provides a different level of guide support and also introduces dedicated shock-absorber configurations. The choice should therefore be driven by the mechanical load, required rigidity and stopping energy rather than by bore and stroke alone.

Can I order an unusual stroke such as 65 mm?

Yes. Camozzi states that intermediate non-standard strokes can be supplied in 5 mm increments, subject to the available configuration and dimensional limits of the selected QCTF or QCBF pneumatic cylinder.
