Technical information & FAQs
Camozzi Series 14 Threaded-Body Mini Pneumatic Cylinders
Camozzi Series 14 pneumatic cylinders are made for machine designs where there is almost no room for a conventional actuator. The cylinder body itself is threaded so the complete pneumatic cylinder can be screwed directly into a prepared machine block, helping eliminate bulky external mounting brackets and keep the installation extremely compact.
Available in 6, 10 and 16 mm bores with short 5, 10 and 15 mm strokes, Series 14 is suited to small ejecting, locating, indexing, locking and positioning movements. All versions are single acting and non-magnetic, with a choice of integrated Ø4 tube connection or conventional M5 pneumatic port.

Screw the Pneumatic Cylinder Straight Into the Machine
The threaded external body is the defining Series 14 feature. Instead of mounting the pneumatic cylinder to a separate foot, flange or bracket, the actuator can be inserted directly into a threaded hole incorporated into the machine structure.
This can make a significant difference on small fixtures, tooling and automated mechanisms where every millimetre around the pneumatic cylinder matters. It also gives the machine designer a very simple way to position the actuator accurately within a block or plate.
Integrated Ø4 Connection or M5 Port
Series 14 gives the installer two distinctly different pneumatic connection choices.
| Code | Connection | Why Choose It? |
|---|---|---|
| A | Integrated connection for Ø4 tube | Allows pneumatic tubing to connect directly to the actuator with minimal additional hardware |
| M | M5 threaded port | Allows a separate M5 pneumatic fitting to be selected for the installation |
The connection type forms part of the Camozzi order code, so an A and M version with otherwise similar dimensions should not automatically be treated as the same replacement.
Smooth or Threaded Piston Rod
Camozzi also gives Series 14 two different piston-rod end designs. Type A uses a smooth, non-threaded rod, while Type B provides a threaded rod connection.
This is particularly important on replacement work because the machine component attached to the pneumatic cylinder may rely on one specific rod-end arrangement. Matching the original connection can avoid modifying existing tooling.
Three Bore Sizes for Very Small Pneumatic Movements
| Bore | External Body Thread | Threaded Rod Size |
|---|---|---|
| 6 mm | M10 × 1 | M3 × 0.5 |
| 10 mm | M15 × 1.5 | M4 × 0.7 |
| 16 mm | M22 × 1.5 | M5 × 0.8 |
The increasing bore provides progressively greater pneumatic force while retaining the same compact threaded-body principle. Selection should therefore consider both the available installation thread and the thrust required by the machine.
Why Series 14 Is Different From a Conventional Mini Pneumatic Cylinder
Series 14 is not intended to provide long travel or sophisticated sensing. Its purpose is to perform a very small single-acting movement with the minimum practical installation footprint.
With no magnetic piston and only three short stroke choices, the design remains deliberately simple. That simplicity is valuable in small mechanical functions where a pneumatic cylinder only needs to push, locate, release or eject and then return by spring action.
Understanding the Series 14 Order Code
The Series 14 code identifies several features that can materially affect whether a replacement fits the machine. The connection character distinguishes the integrated Ø4 tube version from the M5 port, while the piston-rod character identifies either the smooth or threaded rod design.
For example, a code beginning 14N1A identifies the integrated Ø4 connection arrangement, whereas 14N1M uses the M5 threaded pneumatic connection. The following design character then determines whether the piston rod is smooth or threaded.
Series 14 Ordering Questions
Can I screw a Series 14 pneumatic cylinder directly into a machine block?
Yes. That is one of the defining features of the range. The cylinder body itself is externally threaded so it can be installed directly into a correctly prepared threaded hole in the machine.
I want the smallest possible pneumatic connection. Which version should I consider?
The A connection version incorporates the connection for Ø4 pneumatic tube directly into the cylinder. The M version instead provides an M5 threaded port where a separate pneumatic fitting can be installed.
My existing Series 14 pushes directly against a component and has no threaded rod end. Which design is that?
Camozzi identifies the smooth non-threaded piston rod as design A. Design B uses a threaded piston rod, so this distinction should be preserved when ordering a replacement.
Can Series 14 provide position feedback to my PLC?
Not through an integral magnetic piston sensor. Series 14 is a non-magnetic pneumatic cylinder range, so any position confirmation required by the machine needs to be provided by another sensing method.
I need more than 15 mm of travel. Is Series 14 still the right range?
Probably not. Series 14 is intentionally limited to 5, 10 and 15 mm strokes. If the application requires greater movement, another Camozzi compact or mini pneumatic cylinder family should be selected rather than trying to extend Series 14 beyond its intended operating envelope.
