Collection: Camozzi Series 31 Compact Pneumatic Cylinders

Technical information & FAQs

Camozzi Series 31 Compact Pneumatic Cylinders

Camozzi Series 31 compact pneumatic cylinders are designed for machinery where conventional pneumatic cylinders take up too much installation space. Their short-body profile provides linear pneumatic movement in a compact package, with bore sizes from 12 to 100 mm and a wide choice of single-acting, double-acting and specialist configurations.

The range is particularly useful for machine building, assembly equipment, packaging systems, positioning mechanisms and replacement applications where overall cylinder length matters. Standard Series 31 pneumatic cylinders are magnetic, with sensor grooves incorporated into three sides of the external profile for straightforward piston-position detection.

Compact Pneumatic Cylinders for Restricted Installation Space

The defining advantage of Series 31 is its reduced overall size. Where machine frames, guards, tooling or adjacent components restrict available space, the compact profile can provide the required pneumatic movement without the length associated with a conventional profile or tie-rod pneumatic cylinder.

The aluminium body also incorporates longitudinal grooves for magnetic sensors, keeping position detection close to the pneumatic cylinder rather than requiring large external sensor brackets.

Choose the Series 31 Configuration for the Application

Standard Magnetic Versions

Series 31M and 31F pneumatic cylinders are available with male or female piston-rod threads. The magnetic piston enables position sensing using compatible switches installed directly into the profile grooves.

Non-Rotating Pneumatic Cylinders

Series 31R provides an anti-rotation arrangement for applications where the piston rod or attached tooling must resist rotation during movement. This makes it useful for positioning, handling and tooling applications where angular movement would be undesirable.

Through-Rod Pneumatic Cylinders

Through-rod configurations extend the piston rod through both ends of the pneumatic cylinder. They can be useful where balanced movement characteristics, external guidance or access to both sides of the piston rod is required.

High-Temperature Series 31

Camozzi offers a W seal option for operation at temperatures up to 140°C. These high-temperature Series 31 pneumatic cylinders are double acting and non-magnetic, so they should be selected specifically where elevated operating temperature is the primary requirement.

Series 31 Tandem and Multi-Position Pneumatic Cylinders

The Series 31 family also includes tandem and multi-position pneumatic cylinders for applications that require more than a conventional compact actuator.

Tandem versions can use two, three or four stages to produce approximately two, three or four times the thrust of a normal pneumatic cylinder of the same bore while retaining the standard traction force. This can be useful where increased output force is required but increasing cylinder diameter is impractical.

Multi-position Series 31 pneumatic cylinders can provide up to three defined positions, with the positions determined by the strokes of the individual cylinder stages. This provides a pneumatic solution for machinery requiring more than two fixed linear positions.

Series 31 Stroke Capability

Bore Range Maximum Stroke
12–25 mm Up to 200 mm
32–63 mm Up to 300 mm
80–100 mm Up to 400 mm

For magnetic sensor operation, Camozzi specifies a minimum stroke of 10 mm. Single-acting stroke availability is more restricted and should be confirmed against the selected configuration.

What to Check Before Ordering Series 31

Compact pneumatic cylinders can look very similar externally while having important functional differences. Before ordering a replacement Series 31 pneumatic cylinder, confirm whether the existing unit uses a male or female rod thread, whether it is single or double acting, and whether it requires a through-rod, non-rotating or specialist seal configuration.

High-temperature W versions are particularly important to identify correctly because they use FKM seals and are non-magnetic. Tandem and multi-position pneumatic cylinders should also be matched by their complete operating arrangement rather than by external dimensions alone.

Camozzi Series 31 FAQs

What is Camozzi Series 31 used for?

Series 31 is designed for pneumatic linear-motion applications where installation space is limited. Typical uses include compact machinery, assembly equipment, handling systems, packaging machinery and positioning mechanisms.

What bore sizes are available?

Series 31 pneumatic cylinders cover ten bore sizes from 12 mm through to 100 mm.

Are Series 31 pneumatic cylinders magnetic?

Standard Series 31 versions are magnetic and include profile grooves for piston-position sensors. The 140°C W high-temperature version is non-magnetic.

Can Series 31 prevent piston-rod rotation?

Yes. The Series 31R non-rotating version is designed for applications requiring improved resistance to rotation of the piston rod and attached load.

Can a compact pneumatic cylinder produce higher force without increasing bore size?

The Series 31 tandem configuration can combine multiple stages to increase available thrust while avoiding the larger diameter associated with moving to a bigger-bore pneumatic cylinder.

Does Series 31 offer more than two stopping positions?

Yes. Multi-position Series 31 pneumatic cylinders can provide up to three defined positions using the strokes of the individual cylinder stages.
