Collection: Camozzi Series 40K Large-Bore Pneumatic Cylinders
Technical information & FAQs
Camozzi Series 40K Large-Bore Pneumatic Cylinders
Camozzi Series 40K pneumatic cylinders are built for applications where standard bore sizes simply cannot generate enough pneumatic force. With 160, 200, 250 and 320 mm bore options, the range provides heavy-duty linear actuation while retaining ISO 15552 mounting dimensions.
These are pneumatic cylinders for substantial industrial machinery: large clamps, presses, lifting mechanisms, process equipment, heavy handling systems and other applications where output force is the deciding factor. Adjustable pneumatic cushioning helps manage the considerably greater moving mass associated with cylinders of this size.

When Pneumatic Force Becomes the Priority
Series 40K starts where most conventional ISO pneumatic cylinder ranges finish. A 160 mm piston already provides a very large effective area; moving through 200, 250 and 320 mm bore sizes increases the available theoretical force dramatically at the same supply pressure.
This makes Series 40K relevant where a machine requires substantial push or pull force but the designer still wants the simplicity of pneumatic actuation rather than moving to another actuation technology.
160 mm to 320 mm Bore Options
| Bore | Pneumatic Port | Piston Rod Thread |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm | G3/4 | M36 × 2 |
| 200 mm | G3/4 | M36 × 2 |
| 250 mm | G1 | M42 × 2 |
| 320 mm | G1 | M48 × 2 |
The larger G3/4 and G1 pneumatic connections reflect the airflow required by cylinders of this capacity. Valve sizing, tubing diameter and available flow should therefore be considered alongside the pneumatic cylinder itself, particularly where fast cycle times are required.
Controlling Heavy Moving Loads
Large-bore pneumatic cylinders can generate substantial force and may also be moving heavy tooling or machine components. Series 40K therefore uses adjustable pneumatic end cushioning so piston deceleration can be matched to the moving mass and operating speed.
The correct cushioning setting becomes increasingly important as bore size, stroke length and moving load increase. It can help reduce mechanical shock transferred into the cylinder mountings and surrounding machine structure.
Standard, Through-Rod and Trunnion Configurations
Series 40K is available as a conventional single-rod pneumatic cylinder, in through-rod configurations and with a centre trunnion assembled to the cylinder where the application requires a pivoting mounting arrangement.
ISO 15552 compatibility also gives access to established mounting arrangements including front and rear flanges, foot mounts and front or rear trunnions, making Series 40K easier to integrate into large machinery or replace within an existing ISO installation.
Construction Changes Across the Bore Range
Camozzi adapts the Series 40K construction as cylinder size increases. The 160 and 200 mm models use rolled AISI 420B stainless-steel piston rods and brass rod scrapers, while the substantially larger 250 and 320 mm versions use chrome-plated steel piston rods.
This is important when identifying an existing Series 40K pneumatic cylinder because components and accessory dimensions are not identical across all four bore sizes.
ATEX Series 40K Pneumatic Cylinders
ATEX-configured Series 40K pneumatic cylinders are available for appropriately classified environments. Where the machine operates within a potentially explosive atmosphere, the required ATEX configuration should form part of the original product selection rather than being assumed from a standard Series 40K cylinder.
Before Ordering a Large-Bore Pneumatic Cylinder
With pneumatic cylinders of this size, the application should be checked as a complete system rather than selecting bore and stroke in isolation. Consider the required force at the actual working pressure, moving mass, stroke speed, air consumption, valve flow capacity, pipe size, mounting arrangement and end-of-stroke energy.
For replacement work, the original Camozzi code remains the best reference because it identifies the operating and construction options already selected for the machine.
Series 40K Buying Questions
Do I actually need a 250 or 320 mm pneumatic cylinder?
That should be determined from the force required at the available working pressure rather than simply copying an approximate physical size. Oversizing a pneumatic cylinder increases air consumption significantly, while undersizing it can leave insufficient force once friction and load variation are considered.
Will my existing valve provide enough airflow for Series 40K?
Not necessarily. Series 40K uses G3/4 connections on 160 and 200 mm bores and G1 connections on 250 and 320 mm bores. The valve, tubing and fittings should be capable of delivering the airflow required for the target cylinder speed, especially on longer strokes.
When would I choose the through-rod version?
A through-rod Series 40K pneumatic cylinder can be appropriate where mechanical connection is needed at both ends of the piston rod or where the machine design benefits from the more symmetrical characteristics of a through-rod arrangement.
Can Series 40K pivot as the machine moves?
Yes. Centre-trunnion versions are available, along with other ISO mounting accessories, for applications where the pneumatic cylinder needs to articulate during its operating stroke.
What should I check when replacing an old Series 40K pneumatic cylinder?
Because of the forces involved, do not rely on bore and stroke alone. Confirm the complete Camozzi code, rod arrangement, cushioning configuration, mounting style, pneumatic ports and any ATEX requirement before ordering the replacement.
