Camozzi Series 69 Rotary Pneumatic Cylinders
Camozzi Series 69 rotary pneumatic cylinders convert compressed-air power into controlled rotary movement using a hardened steel rack-and-pinion mechanism. They are designed for machine functions that need to turn, index, rotate, flip or reposition a load rather than move it in a straight line.
The range covers seven sizes from 32 to 125 mm bore, with male or female output pinions and standard rotation angles of 90°, 180°, 270° and 360°. Different angular movements are also available, allowing Series 69 to be selected around the actual rotation and torque required by the machine.

Choose Series 69 by Torque, Not Bore Alone
The key purchasing figure for a rotary pneumatic cylinder is torque. Bore size determines how much torque Series 69 can generate at a given air pressure, so the correct model should be chosen from the mechanical turning requirement rather than simply copying a familiar cylinder diameter.

Theoretical torque increases with supply pressure. At 10 bar, the 125 mm Series 69 is rated at a theoretical 510 Nm. The actual actuator should still be selected with an appropriate safety margin for friction, acceleration, external loading and the dynamics of the machine.
90°, 180°, 270° or 360° Rotation
Series 69 can be ordered around the angular movement required by the machine. Standard configurations include quarter-turn 90°, half-turn 180°, 270° and full 360° rotation.
This makes the range suitable for very different machine functions: a 90° actuator may operate a diverter or turn a component through a quarter turn, while 180°, 270° and 360° versions can handle indexing, overturning and more extensive rotary movements.
Fine Adjustment at the End Position
Camozzi provides adjustment at the cylinder heads that allows the final rotation angle to be corrected by approximately ±5°. This is particularly useful where the nominal rotation is correct but the actual machine position needs fine alignment during commissioning.
The adjustment should not be treated as a substitute for ordering the correct main rotation angle; it is intended for final angular correction around the selected movement.

The output connection is fundamental when replacing a Series 69 rotary pneumatic cylinder. A male-pinion actuator and a female-pinion actuator may have the same bore and rotation angle but connect to the driven machine component differently.
For an existing installation, the M or F designation should therefore be confirmed before ordering rather than relying on the basic Series 69 size.
Rack-and-Pinion Construction
The rotary movement is created through a steel rack acting on a hardened-steel pinion. Camozzi provides an adjustment screw that can recover part of the play between the rack and pinion, helping maintain the mechanical relationship as the assembly operates.
The pinion is supported by ball bearings on the main sizes, while the 32 mm version uses a dedicated guide arrangement. This construction allows Series 69 to convert the linear force generated pneumatically inside the actuator into usable rotary torque at the output shaft.
Mounting Series 69 Into Machinery
Threaded holes in the central body provide direct mounting points, and Camozzi also allows Series 69 to be installed using brackets associated with ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinders.
When replacing an existing rotary pneumatic cylinder, the output-shaft arrangement, mounting pattern, centre height and connection to the driven component should all be checked before placing the order.
Series 69 High-Temperature Versions
Standard Series 69 rotary pneumatic cylinders use NBR seals. Camozzi also offers W versions using FKM seals for operating temperatures up to 130°C.
A high-temperature W configuration should therefore be replaced like-for-like where elevated operating temperature is part of the original machine specification.
Selecting the Right Series 69 for Your Machine
I need to turn a component through exactly 90°. Which Series 69 should I buy?
Start with a 90° Series 69 configuration, then calculate the torque required to rotate and accelerate the load at the available working pressure. Once the correct actuator size is established, choose the male or female pinion arrangement that matches the machine interface.
My machine stops a few degrees away from the correct position. Do I need a different actuator?
Not necessarily. Series 69 provides approximately ±5° of end-position adjustment, so small angular differences can be corrected during commissioning. A substantially different required movement should use the appropriate rotation-angle configuration instead.
How much torque will a Series 69 produce?
Torque depends on both actuator size and supply pressure. At 6 bar, Camozzi's published theoretical figures range from 7.2 Nm for the 32 mm size to 306 Nm for the 125 mm size. The selected actuator should include suitable allowance for the real machine load and operating conditions.
The old actuator code ends in F. Can I replace it with an M version?
Not without checking the mechanical interface. F identifies a female output pinion while M identifies a male pinion, so the connection between the rotary pneumatic cylinder and the driven component is different.
Can Series 69 make a complete 360° rotation?
Yes. 360° is one of the standard Series 69 rotation configurations. Camozzi also offers 90°, 180° and 270° as standard, with additional angular configurations available across the range.
