Camozzi Series 6PF Positioning Pneumatic Cylinders

Camozzi Series 6PF pneumatic cylinders are designed for machines that need to know where the piston is throughout its movement, not simply whether it has reached the end of the stroke. A potentiometric linear transducer is integrated inside the piston rod, providing continuous position feedback as the pneumatic cylinder moves.

This makes Series 6PF particularly suitable for positioning, tensioning, filling, cutting and measuring systems where controlled linear movement and position information need to form part of the machine process. Continuous Feedback Instead of Simple End Sensors

A conventional magnetic pneumatic cylinder can normally tell the control system when the piston passes a fitted sensor. Series 6PF goes considerably further by providing continuous information about piston position throughout the available stroke.

The integrated potentiometric transducer changes electrical resistance according to piston position. This allows the machine control system to interpret where the pneumatic cylinder is between its fully retracted and fully extended positions.

Built for Positioning, Measuring and Process Control

Series 6PF is particularly relevant where pneumatic movement forms part of a controlled process rather than a simple extend-and-retract sequence. Camozzi identifies applications including tensioning, positioning, filling, cutting and measuring systems.

For buyers upgrading machinery, this can allow a pneumatic cylinder to provide both mechanical movement and continuous positional information without adding a separate external linear measurement device to the machine.

Low-Friction Pneumatic Movement

The dynamic seals used in Series 6PF are designed specifically for low-friction operation. Camozzi specifies working pressure from 0.1 bar and movement from 5 mm/s, allowing the pneumatic cylinder to operate under conditions that would be difficult for many conventional ISO pneumatic cylinders.

This is especially valuable where the required movement is relatively slow or where smooth response to small pressure changes is important to the process.

IP67 Electrical Integration

The position-feedback system connects through an M12 male electrical connector located on the rear cylinder head. Camozzi rates this arrangement to IP67, providing a robust industrial connection between the integrated transducer and the machine control system.

The piston also contains a permanent magnet, so conventional external magnetic sensors can still be used where separate end-of-stroke confirmation is required alongside continuous feedback.

Standard and Rod-Lock Configurations

Series 6PF is available in standard construction and in versions incorporating a piston-rod lock. A rod-lock pneumatic cylinder should be specified where the application requires the rod to be mechanically retained under defined conditions rather than relying solely on pneumatic pressure.

The Camozzi coding system also provides different piston-rod seal options, including PU, FKM and brass-scraper configurations, plus a version without a rod seal intended to reduce friction further in suitable rear-supply applications.

ISO 15552 Mounting Compatibility

Although Series 6PF contains significantly more sensing technology than a conventional pneumatic cylinder, it retains ISO 15552 dimensional compatibility and can use the established Camozzi accessory range.

Available mounting arrangements include front and rear flanges, foot mounts, front and rear trunnions, swivel arrangements and intermediate trunnion configurations.

What Buyers Need to Know About Series 6PF

Is Series 6PF just a magnetic pneumatic cylinder with a sensor?

No. The magnetic piston can be used with conventional external switches, but the defining feature of Series 6PF is the integrated linear transducer that provides position information throughout the stroke rather than at only one or two sensor points.

Can Series 6PF tell my control system where the piston is halfway through the stroke?

Yes. The integrated potentiometric transducer varies its electrical resistance according to piston position, allowing the machine control system to derive the pneumatic cylinder's position continuously along the stroke.

Does Series 6PF have adjustable pneumatic cushioning?

No. The current Series 6PF specification is double acting, low friction and not pneumatically cushioned. This should be considered carefully when replacing another ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinder that uses adjustable end cushioning.

Why would I specify a Series 6PF rod-lock version?

A rod-lock version is relevant where the piston rod must be mechanically retained as part of the machine function. It is a distinct configuration and should be ordered using the correct Camozzi Series 6PF code.

Can Series 6PF replace an ordinary ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinder?

Its ISO 15552 mounting dimensions can make mechanical integration straightforward, but Series 6PF is a specialist positioning pneumatic cylinder. The electrical feedback requirement, low-friction operating characteristics and absence of pneumatic cushioning should all be assessed before using it as a replacement.
