Technical information & FAQs
Camozzi Series 90 Stainless Steel Pneumatic Cylinders
Camozzi Series 90 pneumatic cylinders are built for machinery operating where corrosion resistance matters. Manufactured with AISI 316 stainless-steel end blocks, barrel and piston rod, the range provides ISO 15552 pneumatic actuation for demanding industrial environments where a conventional aluminium pneumatic cylinder may not provide the required material resistance.
Series 90 is particularly relevant to marine, offshore, food-processing and other process environments exposed to moisture, aggressive cleaning conditions or corrosive surroundings. Single-acting and double-acting versions are available from 32 to 125 mm bore, with magnetic position sensing and adjustable pneumatic cushioning across the range.

AISI 316 Stainless Steel Where Aluminium Is Not Enough
The defining feature of Series 90 is the extensive use of AISI 316 stainless steel across the pneumatic cylinder. Camozzi specifies this material for the end blocks, barrel and piston rod, giving the actuator considerably greater resistance to corrosive operating conditions than a conventional aluminium-profile pneumatic cylinder.
This makes Series 90 a strong purchasing choice where the surrounding environment — rather than simply force or stroke — determines which pneumatic cylinder can be used reliably.
Designed for Harsh Industrial Environments
Camozzi specifically identifies offshore, marine and food applications among the environments for which Series 90 is intended. These are applications where moisture, corrosion, cleaning processes or environmental exposure can quickly become more important than the basic pneumatic specification.
The clean stainless-steel construction also makes Series 90 relevant to process machinery where the external materials of the pneumatic cylinder need to withstand more demanding operating conditions than standard industrial actuators.
ISO 15552 Without Giving Up Corrosion Resistance
Series 90 combines stainless-steel construction with ISO 15552 dimensions. This allows machinery designers to retain an internationally standardised pneumatic cylinder mounting format while specifying materials better suited to corrosive environments.
For replacement applications, the ISO format can also help maintain established mounting geometry, although the complete operating specification and original Camozzi configuration should still be confirmed before ordering.
Controlled End-of-Stroke Deceleration
Series 90 pneumatic cylinders are normally equipped with adjustable pneumatic end cushioning. This allows piston deceleration to be tuned to the moving mass and operating speed rather than allowing the piston to stop abruptly at the end of travel.
Camozzi also incorporates mechanical cushioning to reduce piston impact noise as the pneumatic cylinder reaches its end position.
High-Temperature Series 90 Options
Alongside standard NBR-sealed versions, Camozzi offers Series 90 configurations using FKM sealing materials for applications involving elevated temperatures. Current Series 90 coding includes an all-FKM seal configuration rated up to 150°C.
This makes material and seal selection particularly important when ordering a replacement. A standard Series 90 pneumatic cylinder should not automatically be substituted into an application originally designed around a high-temperature FKM configuration.
Stainless Steel Mounting Accessories
Camozzi supports Series 90 with a dedicated range of stainless-steel mounting accessories, allowing the corrosion-resistant construction to continue beyond the pneumatic cylinder itself.
Available components include stainless-steel foot mounts, front and rear flanges, trunnion brackets, rod forks, swivel joints, clevis pins and rod nuts. This is important in aggressive environments because pairing a stainless-steel pneumatic cylinder with unsuitable surrounding hardware can compromise the overall installation.
Choosing Series 90 for a Replacement
When replacing a Series 90 pneumatic cylinder, material specification is one of the first things to preserve. If the original machine uses AISI 316 stainless steel because of corrosion, washdown or environmental exposure, replacing it with an ordinary aluminium ISO pneumatic cylinder solely because the mounting dimensions match may remove the very feature the original designer required.
The seal specification also matters. Check whether the existing pneumatic cylinder uses standard NBR seals, FKM seals for higher temperatures or a specialist rod-seal arrangement before confirming the replacement.
Series 90 Purchasing Questions
My machine is regularly exposed to water and cleaning chemicals — is Series 90 the Camozzi range I should be looking at?
Potentially, yes. Series 90 is specifically designed around AISI 316 stainless-steel construction for applications requiring high corrosion resistance. The actual chemical compatibility of the pneumatic cylinder materials and seals should still be checked against the cleaning agents used on the machine.
Why shouldn't I replace Series 90 with a cheaper aluminium ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinder?
The mounting dimensions may be similar, but that ignores the principal reason Series 90 exists: corrosion-resistant construction. If the original specification selected AISI 316 because of marine, offshore, washdown or process conditions, changing to aluminium may substantially alter the suitability of the installation.
Should the mounting hardware also be stainless steel?
Where corrosion resistance is important, it is sensible to consider the complete installation rather than only the pneumatic cylinder body. Camozzi offers dedicated stainless-steel Series 90 mounting accessories so brackets, joints and associated hardware can be selected accordingly.
How do I know whether I need the FKM version?
Check the operating temperature and the original Camozzi order code. FKM versions are intended for more demanding temperature conditions and should be selected deliberately rather than assumed to be interchangeable with the standard NBR-sealed pneumatic cylinder.
Is Series 90 only intended for food machinery?
No. Food processing is one recognised application, but Camozzi also identifies offshore and marine duties. The broader reason for choosing Series 90 is the need for a corrosion-resistant AISI 316 stainless-steel pneumatic cylinder.
