Technical information & FAQs
Camozzi Series 97 Stainless Steel Pneumatic Cylinders
Camozzi Series 97 pneumatic cylinders combine AISI 304 stainless-steel construction with a choice of integrated mounting arrangements, making them particularly useful where the way the actuator connects to the machine is just as important as the pneumatic performance.
Rather than relying entirely on separate external brackets, Series 97 includes versions with threaded end blocks, rear male hinges, articulated rear hinges, rear female hinges and front-pin mounting. This gives machine builders and maintenance engineers a direct route to replacing pneumatic cylinders fitted into pivoting, articulated or tightly packaged mechanisms.

Choose Series 97 by How It Mounts to the Machine
Series 97 is unusual because Camozzi incorporates several different mounting concepts directly into the pneumatic cylinder family. This can remove the need to build a standard cylinder and mounting bracket combination when the required pivot or fixing arrangement is already available as part of the actuator.
| Version | Integrated Arrangement |
|---|---|
| M | Rear male hinge |
| S | Articulated rear male hinge |
| F | Rear female hinge |
| T | Threaded front and rear end blocks |
| A | Front end block with pin |
For replacement work, this version identifier can be one of the most important parts of the Series 97 code. A pneumatic cylinder with the wrong rear or front connection arrangement may have the correct bore and stroke but still be impossible to install into the existing mechanism.
Built for Pivoting and Articulated Machinery
The M, S, F and A configurations make Series 97 particularly relevant to machinery where the pneumatic cylinder changes angle during its stroke. Typical mechanisms may include gates, diverters, levers, covers, clamps and articulated machine elements where the actuator cannot remain rigidly fixed throughout its movement.
The articulated S version adds a swivel arrangement at the rear mounting point, while the M and F versions provide male and female hinge configurations for more conventional pivoting installations.
Threaded-End Series 97 Pneumatic Cylinders
The Series 97 T configuration uses threaded front and rear end blocks. This creates a different installation approach from the hinge-mounted variants and can be useful where the pneumatic cylinder is secured through threaded locking arrangements within the machine structure.
Because the T version also supports through-rod configurations, it provides additional flexibility where the mechanism requires piston-rod access on both sides of the pneumatic cylinder.
Bore-Dependent Connections
| Bore | Pneumatic Port | Piston Rod Thread |
|---|---|---|
| 32 mm | G1/8 | M10 × 1.25 |
| 40 mm | G1/4 | M12 × 1.25 |
| 50 mm | G1/4 | M16 × 1.5 |
| 63 mm | G3/8 | M16 × 1.5 |
Adjustable Cushioning for Repetitive Machine Movement
Double-acting Series 97 pneumatic cylinders are available with front and rear adjustable cushioning. This allows end-of-stroke deceleration to be matched to the moving load rather than allowing a pivoting mechanism or attached machine component to stop abruptly.
Where the cylinder operates at high cycle rates, correct cushioning adjustment can help reduce shock transmitted into both the pneumatic cylinder and its mounting points.
AISI 304 or High-Temperature FKM Construction
The standard Series 97 construction uses AISI 304 stainless steel for the end blocks, tube and piston rod. Camozzi also offers an alternative material configuration using FKM seals for applications operating at temperatures up to 150°C.
The high-temperature version should be identified from the Camozzi order code when replacing an existing pneumatic cylinder; it should not be assumed that every visually similar Series 97 has the same seal specification.
Ordering the Correct Series 97 Configuration
The bore and stroke match — why does the M, S, F, T or A code matter?
Those letters determine how the pneumatic cylinder physically attaches to the machine. Selecting the wrong version can give you an actuator with the correct pneumatic performance but the wrong mounting geometry.
Which Series 97 version should I use if the pneumatic cylinder needs to pivot as it operates?
The rear-hinge M, articulated-hinge S and rear-female-hinge F versions are designed around pivoting mounting arrangements. The appropriate version depends on how the existing machine joint is constructed.
What is different about the Series 97 S version?
The S configuration incorporates an articulated rear male hinge, providing additional angular freedom at the rear mounting point compared with a simple fixed hinge arrangement.
Can Series 97 be supplied with the piston rod extending from both ends?
Yes. Through-rod operation is available with the T and A configurations. The through-rod version should be ordered specifically because its mechanical dimensions differ from the standard single-rod pneumatic cylinder.
Is Series 97 the same stainless-steel pneumatic cylinder as Series 90?
No. Series 97 uses AISI 304 stainless steel and is strongly differentiated by its integrated mounting configurations. Series 90 is an ISO 15552 AISI 316 stainless-steel pneumatic cylinder family designed around higher corrosion resistance and standardised ISO mounting geometry.
