Camozzi Series QC Guided Pneumatic Cylinders

Camozzi Series QC guided pneumatic cylinders combine pneumatic movement and external load guidance within one compact assembly. Instead of relying on a separate pneumatic cylinder and linear guide, the Series QC body incorporates twin guide columns alongside the piston rod, helping control the position of attached tooling while keeping the installation compact.

The range is offered in two mechanically different versions. QCT pneumatic cylinders use sintered bronze bushes and are intended for applications exposed to significant side loads, while QCB pneumatic cylinders use linear ball bearings for higher-precision movement and fast cycling. Choosing the correct guide system is therefore one of the most important decisions when specifying Series QC.

QCT or QCB? Choose the Guide to Suit the Load

Series QC is not a case of simply selecting the required pneumatic cylinder bore. The guide-bearing construction changes how the actuator behaves under external loading, and Camozzi provides two distinct solutions.

This distinction should be preserved when replacing an existing Series QC pneumatic cylinder. A QCT and QCB with the same bore and stroke are not simply two equivalent order codes; their guide systems are designed around different mechanical requirements.

Movement and Guidance in One Compact Assembly

A conventional pneumatic cylinder primarily generates linear force and normally relies on the surrounding machine to control side load and tooling orientation. Series QC adds dedicated guide columns and a front flange so the actuator can perform both movement and guidance as one unit.

This can reduce the number of separate components required in compact handling, locating, pressing and positioning mechanisms, particularly where there is insufficient space for an independent pneumatic cylinder and linear guide assembly.

Mount From the Top, Bottom or Side

The Series QC body is designed so the guided pneumatic cylinder can be fixed using its upper, lower or side surfaces. Threaded and non-threaded mounting holes give machine designers considerable flexibility when fitting the actuator into a restricted installation.

This is especially useful on replacement projects where surrounding frames, guarding or tooling limit which face of the pneumatic cylinder remains accessible for mounting.

Sensor Positioning on Both Sides

T-shaped sensor grooves are incorporated into two faces of the Series QC body, allowing compatible magnetic sensors to be installed in several positions on either side of the pneumatic cylinder.

This makes it easier to route sensors and wiring around adjacent machine components and provides non-contact confirmation of piston position without adding external switch brackets.

Fixed Cushioning for End Protection

Both QCT and QCB pneumatic cylinders incorporate fixed cushioning to help prevent direct piston impact against the end covers. Unlike Camozzi ranges with adjustable pneumatic cushioning, there is no manual cushioning setting to tune on Series QC.

The moving load, cycle speed and external mechanism should therefore still be assessed carefully, particularly in higher-energy applications where additional external deceleration may be required.

Standard and Special Stroke Requirements

Camozzi offers a broad selection of standard Series QC strokes, with current purchasable configurations extending to 200 mm depending on size and version. Non-standard strokes are available on request rather than being treated as standard catalogue products.

Where an existing guided pneumatic cylinder uses an unusual stroke, it is therefore worth checking the complete Camozzi order code before assuming the nearest standard travel will provide a direct replacement.

Series QC Buying & Application Questions

My tooling puts sideways force onto the pneumatic cylinder. Should I choose QCT or QCB?

Camozzi specifically positions the QCT bronze-bush version for applications where higher side loads act on the guided pneumatic cylinder. The actual permissible load and moment should still be checked against the dimensional data for the selected bore and stroke.

I need very repeatable fast movement. Which Series QC version is intended for that?

QCB uses linear ball bearings and is the Series QC configuration Camozzi recommends for high-precision and fast-cycling applications.

Can Series QC eliminate a separate linear guide?

In suitable applications, yes. Series QC combines pneumatic movement and guidance into one assembly. Whether its guide system can carry the actual machine load depends on the forces and moments applied to the flange, so those loads need to be checked during selection.

Can I replace a QCT pneumatic cylinder with the same-size QCB?

Do not treat them as automatic substitutes. The pneumatic cylinder dimensions may be related, but the guide technologies are different and are intended for different loading and operating characteristics. The machine requirement should determine the correct version.

I can only fix the pneumatic cylinder from one side of my machine. Is Series QC flexible enough?

Potentially. Camozzi designed the Series QC body for mounting from the upper, lower or side faces, which gives considerably more installation freedom than a guided actuator with only one fixing orientation.
