Technical information & FAQs

Camozzi Series QL Compact Short-Stroke Pneumatic Cylinders

Camozzi Series QL pneumatic cylinders are designed to make installation easier where machine space is restricted, awkward or already crowded with other components. Their lightweight anodised-aluminium body provides compact pneumatic actuation across ten bore sizes from 12 to 100 mm.

The QL range is particularly flexible for a short-stroke pneumatic cylinder. Buyers can choose magnetic or non-magnetic designs, standard or through-rod operation, female or male piston-rod connections and, on larger bore sizes, extended-stroke versions reaching 300 mm.

Lightweight Pneumatic Actuation for Difficult Installation Spaces

Series QL is intended to keep both weight and overall dimensions down. This is useful on compact machinery where an actuator has to fit between frames, guards, conveyors, tooling or other equipment without adding unnecessary mass to the moving assembly.

Camozzi identifies applications ranging from packaging and assembly equipment through to more demanding component-handling systems used in woodworking machinery.

Magnetic or Non-Magnetic Series QL?

Series QL gives the buyer a genuine choice rather than making magnetic sensing mandatory.

Version Code Use
Magnetic QLM For applications requiring piston-position sensing
Non-magnetic QLN For straightforward pneumatic movement where integral magnetic sensing is unnecessary

Selecting the non-magnetic version can make sense where the machine already determines position through another device or where cylinder-mounted sensing simply is not required.

Standard Stroke or Extended-Stroke QL?

The smaller QL pneumatic cylinders remain focused on genuinely short movements, while Camozzi extends the larger sizes considerably further.

Bore Standard Stroke Availability Extended Stroke
12–16 mm 5–30 mm
20–25 mm 5–50 mm
32–40 mm 5–100 mm 125–300 mm
50–100 mm 10–100 mm 125–300 mm

The longer-stroke models use construction code L and give Series QL more flexibility than its short-stroke name might initially suggest. This can be useful where an existing machine is built around the QL mounting envelope but requires substantially more than 100 mm travel.

Standard or Through-Rod Pneumatic Cylinders

Magnetic Series QL pneumatic cylinders are also available in a double-acting through-rod configuration. The piston rod extends from both ends of the actuator, giving a mechanically different arrangement from the standard single-rod design.

This option is useful where both sides of the piston rod need to interact with the machine or where the mechanism has been designed specifically around through-rod geometry.

Female or Male Rod Connection

Series QL also gives buyers a choice at the piston-rod end. Alongside the standard rod arrangement, Camozzi offers an M rod option with an external male thread.

This is particularly relevant during replacement work. A pneumatic cylinder can have the correct bore, stroke and overall series while still being unsuitable if the machine tooling expects a different piston-rod connection.

Pneumatic Connection Sizes

Bore Pneumatic Port
12 mm M5
16 mm M5
20 mm M5

Mounting Series QL Into Tight Machinery

Series QL can be secured directly with screws or installed using mounting brackets. Camozzi supplies both conventional B-QL feet and narrower BN-QL foot mounts.

The narrower mounting option is particularly useful where the pneumatic cylinder itself fits comfortably but the available width around the mounting points is restricted by the surrounding machine structure.

Which Series QL Should You Order?

QLM or QLN — which version belongs on my machine?

Use QLM where the machine needs magnetic piston-position feedback. QLN is the non-magnetic version and is appropriate where cylinder-mounted sensing is not required. If replacing an existing pneumatic cylinder, preserve the original sensing arrangement rather than choosing solely on dimensions.

I need 150 mm stroke. Does that rule out Series QL?

No. Camozzi offers long-stroke QL pneumatic cylinders from 125 to 300 mm on bore sizes from 32 to 100 mm. These use the dedicated long-stroke construction rather than the normal short-body configuration.

My existing QL has an external thread on the piston rod. Is that a separate version?

Yes. Camozzi offers an M rod option with a male piston-rod thread. Matching this detail avoids having to modify the tooling or mechanical connection already fitted to the machine.

The normal mounting feet are too wide for my installation. Is there a narrower option?

Yes. Camozzi provides the BN-QL narrow foot mount specifically as a shorter-width alternative to the standard B-QL mounting feet.

Can I order an ATEX Series QL pneumatic cylinder?

Yes. ATEX is included as a certification option within the current Series QL coding system. The correct certified configuration should be ordered where the machine operates in an applicable hazardous-area environment.
