Camozzi Series QN pneumatic cylinders are built for machine functions where only a very short movement is required and installation space is extremely limited. Their compact body makes them particularly suitable for positioning, locking and stop functions where a conventional pneumatic cylinder would simply occupy too much room.

Series QN is a single-acting, non-magnetic range covering 8, 12, 20, 32, 50 and 63 mm bore sizes. The pneumatic cylinders mount directly through the body, helping keep the complete installation compact and mechanically simple.

Built for Positioning and Locking

Series QN is not intended to replace a general-purpose pneumatic cylinder. Its strength is performing a small, decisive movement in very little space.

Typical machine functions include locating a component, engaging a stop, holding a mechanism in position or providing a short locking movement. The single-acting design also makes QN attractive where pneumatic force is needed in one direction and spring return can handle the opposite movement.

Very Short Standard Strokes

The QN range is deliberately concentrated around short movements. Standard products use 4, 5, 10 and 25 mm strokes depending on bore size.

Small Stroke, Wide Choice of Force

Although QN strokes are very short, bore size extends from just 8 mm up to 63 mm. That means the same compact concept can be used for both very light positioning duties and considerably more forceful locking or clamping movements.

The correct bore should therefore be selected from the force required at the available air pressure rather than simply from the physical size of the existing pneumatic cylinder.

Direct Body Mounting

Series QN pneumatic cylinders are mounted using fixing screws through the body rather than relying on a large external accessory system. This helps minimise installation dimensions and suits machinery where the cylinder needs to sit directly against a frame, plate or fixture.

For replacement work, hole spacing and surrounding clearance should be checked carefully because the compact body itself forms part of the mounting arrangement.

QN Pneumatic Connections

Connection size also changes across the range. The smallest models use compact M5 connections, while the larger 32, 50 and 63 mm pneumatic cylinders use G1/8 ports.

This is worth checking before replacement because pneumatic tube and fitting arrangements may already be tightly packaged around the existing QN installation.

No Magnetic Piston Sensing

Series QN is non-magnetic. It is therefore best suited to functions where integral piston-position sensing is unnecessary or where machine position is confirmed by another device.

If the application requires a magnetic pneumatic cylinder with integrated sensor capability, another Camozzi compact family should be considered rather than trying to add conventional magnetic sensing to QN.

ATEX Series QN Options

Camozzi includes an EX certification option within the Series QN coding system. Where the pneumatic cylinder is intended for an applicable hazardous-area installation, the certified configuration should be specified at the point of purchase.

Series QN Buying Questions

I only need a 4 mm locking movement. Is QN intended for strokes that short?

Yes. Very short movement is one of the main reasons Series QN exists. Camozzi offers 4 mm stroke pneumatic cylinders in 8, 12 and 20 mm bore sizes.

Can I use QN as a compact pneumatic stop?

Potentially, yes. Camozzi specifically identifies positioning and locking as core Series QN applications, which makes the range well suited to compact stop and locating functions where the loads and forces are appropriate.

Why is Series QN single acting?

For many locking and positioning duties, powered movement is required in only one direction. The single-acting arrangement keeps the pneumatic cylinder compact while spring action provides the return movement.

Can I fit a magnetic cylinder sensor to QN?

No. Series QN is a non-magnetic pneumatic cylinder family. If piston-position sensing is required, select a Camozzi range specifically designed with a magnetic piston.

What matters most when replacing a QN pneumatic cylinder?

Confirm the exact bore, very short stroke and mounting-hole arrangement first. Because Series QN is fitted directly through its body, even a small dimensional difference can prevent a replacement pneumatic cylinder from fitting the existing machine.
