Collection: Camozzi Series QX Twin-Piston Guided Pneumatic Cylinders
Technical information & FAQs
Camozzi Series QX Twin-Piston Guided Pneumatic Cylinders
Camozzi Series QX guided pneumatic cylinders use two pistons within one compact actuator to provide increased force without requiring the installation envelope of a much larger conventional pneumatic cylinder. The twin arrangement also provides integrated guidance and anti-rotation, making Series QX particularly useful where high force and accurately controlled linear movement are required together.
The range is available with sintered-bronze bush guidance or linear ball bearings, allowing the pneumatic cylinder to be matched to the mechanical demands of the application. Single-flange and through-rod double-flange constructions provide further flexibility for handling, positioning, pressing and compact machine tooling.

Double-Piston Force in a Compact Pneumatic Cylinder
The defining feature of Series QX is the use of two pistons working together. Camozzi states that this arrangement provides approximately double the force while maintaining compact overall dimensions.
This can be a major advantage where the machine needs more thrust but there is insufficient room to increase pneumatic cylinder diameter significantly. It allows designers to increase force density while retaining a compact guided actuator.
Built-In Guidance and Anti-Rotation
High force alone is not the whole Series QX proposition. The twin construction also provides integrated guidance and resistance to rotation, helping attached tooling remain aligned as the pneumatic cylinder extends and retracts.
This makes QX particularly relevant to pressing, locating, clamping, component transfer and other applications where the load must travel linearly without turning around the cylinder axis.
QXT or QXB?
| Version | Guidance | Selection Focus |
|---|---|---|
| QXT | Sintered bronze bushes | Robust guided movement where bush guidance suits the load and operating conditions |
| QXB | Linear ball bearings | Smoother guided movement where precision and lower-friction bearing guidance are preferred |
The bearing system is part of the pneumatic cylinder specification. A QXT and QXB with otherwise similar dimensions should not automatically be treated as interchangeable because the guide construction and piston-rod material differ.
Single-Flange or Through-Rod Double-Flange?
Standard Series QX pneumatic cylinders use a single moving flange and are identified by operation code 2. Camozzi also provides operation code 3, which uses a through-rod arrangement with a flange at both ends.
The double-flange version gives the machine designer a different mechanical interface and should be selected where the mechanism needs guided connection on both sides rather than simply as an alternative part number for the standard QX.
Series QX Standard Strokes
| Piston Size | Standard Strokes |
|---|---|
| 10 × 2 mm | 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 75 mm |
| 16 × 2 mm | 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 and 100 mm |
| 20 × 2 mm | 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 and 100 mm |
| 25 × 2 mm | 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 and 100 mm |
| 32 × 2 mm | 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 and 100 mm |
Fine-Tune the Final Stroke
Front and rear regulation screws allow the Series QX stroke to be shortened by up to 10 mm from the nominal travel. This provides useful adjustment where the standard catalogue stroke is close to the machine requirement but the final working position needs to be set more precisely.
For replacement applications, adjustment should not be used to disguise an incorrectly selected pneumatic cylinder. The original nominal stroke and any existing adjustment should both be identified where possible.
Check External Load and Torque, Not Just Pneumatic Force
Because QX combines guidance and pneumatic actuation, Camozzi publishes allowable external load and torque data according to stroke. The load attached to the flange therefore needs to be assessed mechanically as well as pneumatically.
A heavy or offset component can create bending or rotational moments even when the pneumatic force requirement appears modest. These forces should be checked against the relevant QX load diagrams before selecting the final size.
Series QX Selection Questions
I need more force but cannot fit a much wider pneumatic cylinder. Is QX designed for that problem?
Yes. The double-piston arrangement is specifically intended to increase available force while retaining compact dimensions, making Series QX particularly relevant where installation width is restricted.
Why would I choose QX instead of adding an external guide to another pneumatic cylinder?
Series QX combines the pneumatic actuator, anti-rotation function and guidance in one assembly. In suitable applications this can reduce component count and simplify the mechanical relationship between the cylinder and attached tooling.
My tooling needs a connection on both sides of the actuator. Which QX construction should I look at?
The operation-code 3 Series QX uses a through-rod, double-flange arrangement and is the relevant configuration where the machine requires the twin-cylinder assembly to provide mechanical interfaces at both ends.
Can I reduce a 50 mm QX stroke slightly during commissioning?
Yes. Camozzi provides front and rear adjustment screws that allow the effective stroke to be reduced by up to 10 mm, giving some final positioning adjustment around the nominal stroke.
Does the QXB version use the same guide construction as QXT?
No. QXB uses linear ball bearings and hardened C50 steel rods, while QXT uses sintered bronze bushes with AISI 303 stainless-steel rods. The choice should be made from the guidance and mechanical requirements of the application.
