Technical information & FAQs
Camozzi Series QPR Non-Rotating Pneumatic Cylinders
Camozzi Series QPR pneumatic cylinders are designed for short linear movements where attached tooling must stay correctly orientated throughout the stroke. Built-in non-rotating guides restrict piston-rod rotation, making QPR particularly useful for feeding, handling, locating and positioning tasks where a conventional short-stroke pneumatic cylinder could allow unwanted angular movement.
The compact aluminium-profile design is available from 12 to 100 mm bore, allowing the anti-rotation concept to be used across a wide range of force requirements. Series QPR pneumatic cylinders are double acting and magnetic, with standard and through-rod configurations available.

Keep Tooling Aligned During the Stroke
The defining advantage of Series QPR is not simply its compact size. The pneumatic cylinder is designed to resist piston-rod rotation so attached tooling retains its angular position as the cylinder extends and retracts.
That becomes important when the piston rod carries a finger, stop, pusher, locator or other component whose orientation affects the machine process. A standard pneumatic cylinder may provide the correct linear movement while still allowing the attached part to rotate; QPR is intended to control that additional degree of movement.
Where QPR Makes Sense
Camozzi specifically identifies supply operations and handling equipment as suitable applications for the QPR non-rotating design. In practice, the same characteristic can also be valuable in compact positioning, feeding and locating mechanisms where repeatable alignment is required.
For machine builders, this can avoid adding a separate external anti-rotation mechanism around a conventional pneumatic cylinder. For maintenance engineers, it is an important feature to preserve when replacing an existing QPR actuator.
Stroke Capacity Depends on Bore Size
| Bore | Series QPR Stroke Range |
|---|---|
| 12 mm | 1 to 50 mm |
| 16 mm | 1 to 75 mm |
| 20–100 mm | 1 to 100 mm |
Series QPR therefore remains firmly focused on short-stroke movement. Its maximum travel is intentionally lower than the standard QP range because the additional non-rotating guidance changes the mechanical construction of the pneumatic cylinder.
Ten Bore Sizes, One Anti-Rotation Concept
QPR covers the same broad 12 to 100 mm bore spectrum as the QP family. This gives engineers considerable freedom to select the required pneumatic force while retaining the non-rotating mechanism.
A small-bore QPR can perform lightweight handling or locating duties, while 63, 80 and 100 mm versions allow much greater thrust where a short but forceful aligned movement is required.
Standard or Through-Rod QPR
Camozzi offers QPR as a conventional double-acting pneumatic cylinder and as a double-acting through-rod configuration. The through-rod version extends the rod from both sides while retaining the QPR non-rotating construction.
These are mechanically different products and should be selected according to the machine design rather than treated as interchangeable variants of the same pneumatic cylinder.
Magnetic Sensors Within the Compact Profile
Guides machined into three sides of the external aluminium profile provide locations for compatible position sensors. This keeps the sensing arrangement close to the pneumatic cylinder body and avoids large external switch brackets.
Camozzi specifies a minimum stroke of 10 mm for magnetic sensor use. That matters because QPR itself can be manufactured with strokes starting from only 1 mm.
An External End Stop Is Required
Camozzi specifies that the end stop for Series QPR must be provided externally by the machine. The pneumatic cylinder should therefore not be treated as the final uncontrolled mechanical stop for the moving assembly.
This point should be considered at the design stage and preserved when replacing an existing QPR installation, particularly where tooling is travelling quickly or carrying additional mass.
QP or QPR?
Choose Series QP when the requirement is primarily compact short-stroke pneumatic movement. Choose Series QPR when that same movement must also resist piston-rod rotation.
The anti-rotation feature is not merely a cosmetic variation. If the original machine uses QPR to maintain the orientation of attached tooling, replacing it with a standard QP pneumatic cylinder can change how that tooling behaves during operation.
Series QPR Application & Ordering Questions
My pneumatic cylinder pushes a rectangular component into position. Why does anti-rotation matter?
If the component is attached directly to the piston rod, rod rotation can alter its orientation as it moves. Series QPR guides the movement so the attached component remains aligned more consistently throughout the stroke.
Can QPR replace a standard QP pneumatic cylinder?
Potentially in a redesigned application, but they should not be treated as identical. QPR incorporates additional non-rotating guidance and has different maximum stroke limits. Mechanical dimensions and the existing mounting arrangement should be checked before changing between the two families.
I need 150 mm stroke with anti-rotation. Can I use Series QPR?
No standard QPR configuration reaches 150 mm. Maximum stroke is 50 mm at 12 mm bore, 75 mm at 16 mm bore and 100 mm from 20 to 100 mm bore. A different guided pneumatic cylinder solution should be considered where greater anti-rotating travel is required.
Can I use a magnetic switch on a very short QPR pneumatic cylinder?
Only where the stroke meets Camozzi's sensor requirement. The pneumatic cylinder itself can have a stroke below 10 mm, but Camozzi specifies 10 mm as the minimum stroke for sensor use.
Should the machine provide its own mechanical stop?
Yes. Camozzi explicitly requires the Series QPR end stop to be provided externally, so the surrounding mechanism should incorporate an appropriate stop for the intended movement.
Would QPR suit a pneumatic feeder or handling mechanism?
Yes. Camozzi specifically identifies supply operations and handling equipment as applications where the QPR non-rotating guides are advantageous.
